Folk Alliance International

About

The Folk Alliance International (FAI) Conference is the world’s largest gathering of the Folk music industry and community (crossing a diverse array of genres including Appalachian, Americana, Blues, Bluegrass, Celtic, Cajun, Global Roots, Indigenous, Old Time, Traditional, Singer-Songwriter, and Spoken Word).

The annual February conference (now in its 30th year) draws 2,700 artists and industry (agents, managers, publishers, labels, festival/venue presenters, promoters, media) dedicated to folk music. Delegates who attended the 2017 conference represented 27 countries including Armenia, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, France, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, and Yemen.

Showcase Scotland Expo met with the Executive Director of FAI at Australian Music Week in 2016 to propose the idea of a special showcase of Scottish artists. This lead to him attending The Visit in 2017 and selecting 6 artists from the 22 who showcased at that event. Those artists will be flying out to Kansas City, Missouri in February 2018 as official showcasing artists. Showcase Scotland Expo will host a Scottish Showcase evening in the Century C ballroom on Friday 16th February where all 6 artists will perform 30 minute sets. On Saturday 17th February we will host Showcase Scotland Saturday in British Underground’s Private Showcase room (539) where the 6 artists will again have the opportunity to play to delegates from all over North America and the world. The 6 selected artists are:

Breabach, Elephant Sessions, Fara, RURA, Skerryvore and Talisk

In addition we were delighted to discover that two other fantastic artists from Scotland were selected as official showcasing artists. As well as their own performances Findlay Napier and Jarlath Henderson will be joining us for Showcase Scotland Saturday.
